CGC Event

Summer is drawing to an end, and its time to begin a new semester filled with culinary explorations. Stay tuned for delicious posts on all things gourmet;  cooking, tasting, restaurant-going, travel, and maybe even some poetry this year. Please read, comment, and enjoy!

If interested in joining our club, please attend our first meeting on Monday Sept. 12th at 5pm in 122 Rockefeller Hall. We hope to see you there! (Feel free to email if you have any questions).

Welcome back foodies! As we settle into classes, Gourmet Club is kicking into gear for the semester with our first meeting and event. We’ll be gathering this Monday January 31st at 5:15 pm in Rockefeller 122 for snacks and spring event plans. Stay tuned for more info on our upcoming event: fondue! The molten cheese above is from the super food blog sippitysup, just to whet your appetite.

Cheers to a great Spring 2011 and I look forward to more food adventures!

Hello all, my name is Dan, and I’ll be writing for the CGC blog from now on. I’m not going to waste any time introducing myself since you probably already know me as the enormously successful author of Eggcentric Engineering, a sophisticated food blog for high-class enthusiasts such as yourselves. In the interest of having something unique to talk about on both blogs, I have decided to keep my recipes posted in my own blog and write about foodie events and related musings on this one. In the future, you’ll be able to tell which posts are mine without looking at the header – I’m the witty one.

It’s been awhile but the CGC blog is back in action! We’ll be posting all kinds of goodies on the site – event details, updates on meetings, interesting food articles, and plenty of food photography. Our food blog head, Lloyd, will be making posts and I encourage you to read!

This weekend we have a host of food-filled events that you may be interested in –

Dilmun Hill Field Day, Thursday 9/2 from 5-7:30

Ithaca Brewfest, Saturday 9/4 from 3-7 ($35 in advance, $45 day of)

Our very own CGC Mixed Grill, Sunday 9/5 starting at 6 pm  – bring an item to grill and a friend!

We’re all excited to start another delicious semester, and I hope to see you all soon!

CGC got their baking on, for our first cooking challenge of the year… the Cookie Exchange Contest! Cookies were judged based on taste, presentation, and originality (a la Iron Chef ). With over fifteen entries, it was great to see all the different cookies people came up with. Beyond the chocolate chip, entries included Pumpkin Sandwich Cookies with Cream Cheese Filling, Earl Grey Tea Cookies, Double Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies, White Chocolate Covered, and countless more. Here are the results:

Taste: Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Sandwich Cookies with Cream Cheese Filling

Presentation: Cranberry Pistachio Cookies

Originality (tie): Lemon Olive Oil Thyme Black Pepper Cookies AND
Italian Pineapple Cookies AND Earl Grey Tea Cookies

Overall Winner: Cranberry Pistachio Cookie (Congrats Casey!)

Thanks to all who baked and judged, we will definitely need to do this again! I ate about 10 different cookies within half and hour and didn’t eat dinner afterwards! With so many talented bakers I’m really excited to see how successful a CGC Bake Sale could be. So look out for announcements for our Bake Sale that we are planning for late Oct/early Nov.
